happy ocho de mayo!

Yeah so it's a few days after Cinco de Mayo. I totally didn't celebrate, as much as being a fun drunk seems to be for everyone else, I'm just not that girl. It was kind of a chores day. I did laundry. I bathed Zoe. I did 80% of a hair cut on Zoe (see previous posts about hair cuts for Zoe, it's a frustrating and long drawn out process). Then I worked a party a friend threw for her Mom, so it would go well and she wouldn't have to worry. (But I worked my butt off.) Then I came home, exhausted, and tried to relax. But I remembered I had to try to get in Cinco de Mayo shots of Zoe wearing her hat. Dear lord, when we packed things up with Hubby's move I made him let me keep it. I knew exactly where it was, despite the rest of my house being a mess mid packing/move right now.

It didn't work out well, she was already "traumatized" from the bath and hair cut earlier in the day. She flipped out whenever I put the hat on her. And this is the girl that never liked it before but just sat there and dealt with it every other year, knowing it'd be over soon. Anyway, this was the disastrous photshoot. Enjoy (even if it's a few days late)!

Really, we're really going this?!?

Is it over yet?

Happy freaking cinco de mayo. The END, I'm done. Put the phone down!

battle of wills: dog vs. human

Hair cuts for Zoe are a several day ordeal, because I do her hair cuts myself. It's a battle of wills and there's only so much either of us can take of the other. So it takes a few days. I split it up over several "sessions" and they last for as long as I can still accomplishing something with her, then a break, and then whenever another window of opportunity comes around another "session".  Needless to say I put haircuts off for a while simply because no one wants to deal with something like that if they can avoid it. But I mustered my patience and decided it was time. I'm never really able to finish her cut 100%, it's more like 80-90% and no final finishing. But I'm still going to call this a success!

Finished pretty princess!

Note: I actually wrote this post months ago, yeah as in the last time I went to cut Zoe's hair. I never got a completed picture of her from that cut.

Anyway, this weekend I decided while I had several days off I should try to give the princess a hair cut. So she got a bath and some hair was cut, but I wouldn't go so far as to say she got a hair cut. Also, this time I cut her hair in the middle of the living room but the torture tools remained the same even if the location changed. Doing it out in the open wasn't a smart plan because given my slightest hesitation Zoe darted out of my reach and ran for "safety". It took a lot of treats to even get what little hair was cut.

I'd say one day I'd get good pictures of all of this, but the whole thing is such chaos I know that will never happen. What battles do you encounter in your lives? Anything as menacing as me battle Zoe for a hair cut?

high five for friday

Well ladies and gentlemen, it's Friday again! This was another difficult week for me, I've been sick for the past 7 days and trying to recover and get back to normal life.

high five for friday!

1. Zoe. She's always been wonderful but there's almost nothing better than when you're not feeling well and your pet becomes extra kind, extra cuddly, extra exactly what you need.
2. Klenex tissues with lotion. My nose thanks you. I don't know what I'd do without you, trusty friend!
3 & 4. ModCloth's Conference to Cocktails Wedge & Dapper Darling Flat in Cherry. I decided I had to have the wedges and purchased the flats to get me free shipping. This is the first time I've ordered anything from ModCloth, I'm excited but apprehensive!
5. Smile Away. Randomly I saw this one day on a bathroom stall. I immediately fished for my phone and took a picture. This week I've needed a lot of optimism and I found this picture in my phone, made me smile each time I saw it!

* I'm trying a new styling for these high five for fridays. What do you think? Is this cuter? Worse? Better?

being sick is not fun

I've been sick with a cold all week. It started last Friday night and just kept on going. It got so bad I had to stay home from work most of the week! I'm finally back at my first full day at work but since work isn't that exciting I thought I'd share the highlights from the last few days:

Zoe hanging out on the couch (on her blankets). This is how I picture she spends most of her days when we're not home (if we leave her out). Sometimes she refuses to snuggle and will lay on the opposite side of the couch from you. Apparently sometimes she needs her space!

Essentials: new tissues, pile of used tissue and TV remotes. Priorities really get skewed when you're sick!

I'm asleep, stop looking at me!
I'm keeping my eye open until you stop looking at me. Seriously, I'm sleepy, stop looking at me so I can go back to sleep!

As you can tell a lot of my day when I'm home sick involves Zoe. I think she almost prefers being home alone with the amount of pestering I put her through. But what's the point of being home and feeling miserable if you can't snuggle and cuddle and mess around with your dog!?!

Another cute photo, just to round it all out.  The even cuter part, she was totally snuggling (of her own free will) with me. The lump she's leaning on (and just out of the picture): that's me! See sometimes, when you're sick to bother trying to force her, she snuggles all on her own. And then she'll glue herself to you and snuggle in for the long haul. Oh how I love this dog!
